Objectives
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with UAV data acquisition and processing. Students will acquire knowledge and practical skills in the use of UAV technologies and to familiarise students with their applications. Students learn the processing and analysis of data obtained with modern UAV technologies and implement the obtained results in for example spatial management, monitoring projects and inventory. The course includes lectures introducing to UAV data acquisition and processing, and also practical part which consists of UAV data processing and analysis.
Programme to be Followed

Lecture Contents (8 h):

1. Types of UAVs and sensors for UAVs (2h)

  • multi-rotor, fixed-wing
  • cameras for UAVs: RGB, multispectral, thermal cameras
  • laser scanners for UAVs: differences, comparison

2. UAV data acquisition (2h)

  • mission planning
  • mission parameters
  • optimum conditions for data acquisition

3. UAV data processing (2h)

  • algorithms used for UAV data processing
  • software for UAV data processing
  • UAV products
  • results analysis

4. Applications of UAVs in monitoring, inventory and geomatics (2h)

Practical part (18 h):

  1. Input data analysis
  2. New project creation - data import, GCPs measurement
  3. Image orientation and products generation
  4. Result analysis
  5. UAV LiDAR data processing - data orientation, DTM generation
  6. Comparison of the image and LiDAR products from UAVs
